Time to document the vocabulary

Exactly a year ago, I documented some of the most adorable first words/sentences of A baby.  A year has passed.. and its time for the performance review!

Every mom longs to hear that first word from their little ones. But, there is also a point when every mom longs for some "silence" and goes “shhhhh chumma iru” (translation: shhhh keep quiet).  This writer is not exactly in that situation “all the time", but can already see a couple of glimpses before nap time and bed time specifically when she says "yes, the chatty period for today is done sweet heart, it is QUIET time now". We even received a comment from an outsider once -- "Oh, little A, you're a chatterbox, aren’t you?". That comment made us smile..no..laugh that day.

• Acknowledge 
  

Aama (yes, acknowledgment, okay) for most of the things he is asked for. (yes, as a mom/woman I like it when someone acknowledges..go A!)

• Plan

Enna plan? (Almost everyday. We plan.. that is a good sign too?:))

• Escalate

Amma, nee GG kitta sodhu its my darkchocolate (Ah, escalation and securing his things.)
Amma, appa enna thitta. nee appa kitta sodhu (sollu)

• Responds

Thaatha: A, is it wet or dry?
A: Looks outside and comes up with an appropriate answer, wet/dry. 

Thaatha: Nee enna panna ( what are you doing) 

A: naa bike ota ( im riding my bike)

Thaatha: appa enga ( where’s dad)

A: appa office poika 

Thaatha: amma enna panra

A: amma mammam saapaa 

A:amma nee en office dress potta, nee po venaam. Stay here.

• Negotiates

I go poopy, mommy will give me lollipop, seri?
If I am a good boy, we can go jeep drive, okay?
Naa good boy aa iru we can go to Yo-Mama, seri?
I make dosa all gone, then we can play. seri?
I make ice-cream all gone, mommy will give me more. Seri?

Rainy day- A, we can go out later. It’s raining isn’t it.

A: it’s okay, if it’s raining we can take umbrella and cap okay. 

A friend’s mom on the phone asking him to come home.

A replies “ naa eppi vadha naa very far away. Nee vaa”

Bedtime- amma thii amma thii ( wants to lay on mom and sleep). Bright aanaa big amma thii dark

Aanaa pillow thii. Please baby amma thii (plays nice to put his feet on mom while sleeping)

• Protects 

When appa pretends to hit paati or myself..A yells and ofcourse hits "Hey Appa, don't do it. Mommy is a good girl."

• Romantic/Affectionate 

Amma, avaa enna panra? (Let's say we were watching a telenovela..) - yes cautioned! 
Baathaa-kaathaa-meemaa-thaa (His song for cuddling)

Good night, love you too. God bess you

Mom and dad go..Nee amma baby , nee appa babby. A goes “naa amma appa baby”.

A falls down and mom panics. A goes “it’s a-kay mommy , I’m all better”

• Compassion
  

Manna (Manda), GG scared for (T-silent) understorms. We hug her okay.

Amma, Manna has head boo boo, I kiss her head.

Appa nee en thitta..naa paavamaa (feels pity for himself) 

• Sings and dances 
  

Chinna chinna vanna Quyi .. puriyaadha Aanan-DHAMMMM
Poothaadum then mottu - naaaaaana naaaana

Amma, I want new chinna chinna. I go "Chinna chinna aasai....", and A says "Stop, dont sing amma. Adhu venaam.nanna idha (it’s not good)

Sings and dances to dinosaur songs and Funky monkey, except for the latter, he silences a syllable which can become very controversial if he were an adult. Letting go at the mark of 3.5 years.....

Amma vaa nee friend phone call pann. 

Let’s go to park, friends oda play play pann.

Amma naa Iya akka oda  play play panna.( wants to play with his niece)

amma, umaa thaathaa umaa thaati indiana iruka
paaru, its an aeroplane. Dhagha thaatha ennoda yellow car pack panni varaa (and waves at the aeroplane)

Amma, umaa thaati engae? Naa find panna po( soon after her grandma flew back home)

Amma en Anu akka vadha vaati? (Why is Anu not coming) 

• Not quite into cartoons

Amma: A, who is that? (pointing at Mickey Mouse)
A: wow..its Elmo

Amma, pee pee yellow. Adhaa naa water keten

Amma, en chumma burpee vadha? Enaku toothpaste eat panna konna

Thoppa valik aanaa pee pee poopy. It will all be better. Its okay

You sneezed, here you go, sanitizer 

• Attitude

A: Yeaaaaah  ;)

• Appreciative 

Appa you fixed my Jeep appa. Good job 

Amma you fixed the water. I’m proud of you.

Thaatha: what are you having A? Is it juice?

A: amma, thaathu ku already theri (he already knows )

(Self-appreciation)

Gin(Jill ) , what you doing? Adih paaru good boy. Don’t pull. You wanna go home? ( yes gently handles the four legged that pulls while on leash )

• Imagination

Takes a break from his wheels to attend a pretend phone call.

Plays with his Jeep, opens the hood and goes “wait mappi do oil change okay” 

Bedtime,

Amma story sodhu (sollu) peeese amma . Amma says a story with interruptions for every line asking “ava enna sodha” “enna aachaa”. If the question is passed to him, he would say “you tell me”. 

Amma- your turn now 

A: ok,,hmm hmm baathu ( imaginary monster) blue bike la vadhaa .

Hey A naa unna saapaa poren. Nee thoongu apram nigh nigh appi thoonga 

A: kisna amma enna sodha “hey vennai thirudi kanna....”

• Observation

Amma angae paaru adhu Anu akka car, adhu big car, adhu dummy athai car , adhu Manda car ( yes spot on identifying different car makes -- Like father like son, sure)

• Fun (nny )

Naa ippi panna appa bayannu odiyae poitaa (A did something and appa ran away with fear )

Amam en finger boo boo, bandaid venam (Just a fake bandaid) 

A throws something and when asked if that was the right thing to do , A goes “YES”....grins and then says “Noooo”. ( that is newww, funny right now but definitely needs caution )

Vemmi vemmi—— gives a little hip shake and sings just to make himself look like a clown and to make us laugh

A says a story..involving a few people and suddenly smiles and asks “ What is A? “ 

A watches his own videos on the phone and says “amma paare A enna panna “

A rides his bike and says “naa bike otta nee photo edu seri” ( sure we need to capture that so he can enjoy when he gets his phone time)

If A is given a new food to eat ..

A: enaku venaa. 

Amma: just try it at least once and tell me if it’s good or bad. If it’s bad you don’t need to eat it 

A: hmmm nannaa irk ( it’s good)

A: ewww adhenna ( not a winner ;))

Baaaaathuuuuu (Scares us with his imaginary monster sounds)

A goes He he he he.( What is the point of playing hide and seek)

A to a (a very cute )friend he jussssst met:made... “This is my house. Do you want to come inside? We can play “ 

A driving his cool Jeep on the road. A 6 year old boy touches the Jeep and A goes “ ammmaa he is coming..rides way fast and reaches home”.

Thaathi thooki.... amma, thaatha thooka muni thaathi gundanaa irk (asks grandma to carry him

And says she is unable to since she is fat..oops)

A come, calls his aunt. A says “naa eppi vaa. Naa vanna muni....( vara mudiyaadhu-unable to come).

Enaku theri ( theriyaadhu- I don’t know)

A to his friend that he is seeing after weeks...

“Hey that’s my new shoe I think so....” 

Appa, you want to go to Walmart or somepin (something ) else ?

A, what’s that? Just babbles at times knowing he is doing so and says ..booshuuu ( a made up word for whatever )

Amma: A, why would you have a dessert this late?

A: cos I’m like it ( I like it) 

Amma: why didn’t you fix this?

A: I cannot have to do this( I cannot do this) 

• Academics 

A throws an object. Amma asks him to go a specific spot and count. He goes 1,2.3..... to 10.

Saves for a new bike/ counts his savings.. 1 2..10

A for his name

B for ball and boat 

C for ..hmm I don’t know

G for garbage truck 

Colors: what color is GG? Black and white and brown.
