Get to the POINT

There is definitely a great feeling of relaxation after you get a body massage or even a facial.

Perhaps, all the pressure points were stimulated in your massage session. So, stimulation of certain points in the body for those that can’t afford a massage simply makes sense especially when you want to take care of yourself, free of cost at home. When you have a headache, you often rub your forehead, press those our temples in pain automagically. Why not choose the correct pressure points and give it a try? This is really my understanding in acupressure points, disregarding the fancy names in Chinese medicine. The difference between breathing implicitly, putting breathing as a background task versus putting it in the forefront with a focused deep breathing provides instant stress relief and lowers blood pressure. This is another example of paying explicit attention to your sensory system, stimulate it, make it feel like it exists: because if you don’t give a chance to relieve the mind and body muscle tension you’ve (or rather your environment has) built, it’s going to be reflected somehow in a not so cost-efficient way.

“Qi” (pronounced as Chi) is said to be this vital energy that circulates through certain natural  pathways, forming a network in the body. These pathways in the network are called “meridians”.
The meridians encompass several parts in your body. For example, there is one that channels through the upper body.

This circulation is key to a healthy body and mind. If there is a blockage and Qi is struggling to pass through, this can be reflected in the form of illnesses, even if it’s just a minor headache. Acupressure helps to correct functional imbalances and restore the flow thus returning the body to a more natural state of well-being. It’s nothing but applying gentle pressure in fixed pressure points based on your symptom. The nice thing about this is that having to focus on a pressure point for issue A can often fix other issues B,C that are more of an avalanche from the underlying pattern or flow that is being rectified.

I am listing just a couple pressure points here for your reference. You can either do the following along with your mindful meditation, apply pressure points and  follow instructions where I marked in my post on "No-calorie burn mind and body exercises for a healthy living" -- which is my simple routine, being a juggler myself. Alternately, just do this as a separate routine for about 2-3 minutes every day. Evaluate yourself after about 4 weeks.

Oh, that PAIN.

We will do a simple acupressure exercise for pain relief. Pressure points help release muscle tension and promote blood circulation. It can also relieve many common side effects of chemotherapy.

Make a V shape with your left thumb and index finger. Just take your right thumb and very gently
press against the intersection of the left thumb and the left index finger (the sharp point in the
V-shape you formed). You should feel the pulse at that point. This point has the thickest muscle in the web between your thumb and index. Don’t worry too much about the specificity of the point because it’s almost the shape of a nickel, so you’ll have it covered if you try to follow the instructions here. This point is the LI-4, also called Hegu [Figure 1]. While you’re gentling pressing this point, if you’re able to rotate your thumb, please do so a few times. The Hegu point helps alleviate any pain you feel in this moment, especially headaches, sinus, stress related pain, neck pain, anxiety, tooth pain, constipation, lower back ache and so on.

LI-4 is a large intestine meridian and this channel controls the flow of good energy, particularly
connected to the head (to your nose) and neck area. It also branches down to the lung and large intestine, ensuring circulation is seamless in this area.

Figures.
